Ronaldo's Emotional Farewell to World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly emotional following Portugal's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16, marking the end of his sixth and final World Cup campaign. The match concluded with a stoppage-time goal from Mikel Merino.

Despite the heart-wrenching loss, the five-time Ballon d'Or recipient expressed confidence in his legacy with the national team, reiterating his commitment to giving his all on the field.

Ronaldo shared, "It's normal to feel sad leaving the World Cup this way. However, as I mentioned in yesterday's press conference, I have given everything I could. I depart with a clear conscience."

He added, "Football is unpredictable; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Life goes on. Yes, this was my last World Cup, but I have time to reflect, spend time with my family, and not rush into decisions."

Ronaldo's career will conclude without a World Cup title or a final appearance, with his best showing being a semifinal run in 2006, where Portugal finished fourth.

Nonetheless, he remains one of the tournament's legendary figures, netting 11 goals across 27 matches and joining Lionel Messi as the only players to compete in six World Cups.

His performance in the European Championships was even more impressive, scoring 14 goals in 30 matches and leading Portugal to victory in 2016.

Reflecting on his achievements, he stated, "Before my time, Portugal had not secured any titles. I take pride in that. The 2016 title holds equal importance to me as the World Cup."

Ronaldo concluded, "I leave with a clear conscience, having done my utmost. Tomorrow is a new day, and life continues." He is currently contracted with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League for one more season, although it remains uncertain if this will be his final season.
