Texas, USA - On June 17, Portugal's captain and renowned football star, Cristiano Ronaldo, conveyed a heartfelt message as his team gears up for their FIFA World Cup 2026 debut against DR Congo. He expressed a deep sense of pride, responsibility, and determination as he prepares to lead his nation once more on the global stage.
In a post on X, Ronaldo emphasized the importance of representing Portugal, stating that donning the national jersey evokes the same pride and passion as it did on his very first day.
He wrote, "Every time we wear this jersey, we feel the same pride, the same passion, and the same sense of responsibility as on the first day. Tomorrow begins a new chapter. We worked hard to reach this moment, and now it’s time to give everything for our Country, and for all the Portuguese communities that support us here and around the world. Believe it like we do!"
Cada vez que vestimos esta camisola, sentimos o mesmo orgulho, a mesma paixão e o mesmo sentido de responsabilidade do primeiro dia.

This statement was made just before Portugal's opening match against DR Congo, scheduled for June 17 (Indian Standard Time).
Recently, Ronaldo shared several training photos on his Instagram, showcasing his preparation with the Portugal squad in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Although he participated in both warm-up matches against Chile and Nigeria, he did not score, yet Portugal secured victories in both games with a score of 2-1.
Before the team's departure to the United States on June 12, the 41-year-old confidently addressed reporters about his fitness, stating, "Physically? I’m fine — have you not seen my matches?"
Ronaldo holds the record for the most appearances (227) and goals (143) in men's international football and is now focused on capturing the one major trophy that has eluded him throughout his illustrious career.
He expressed excitement for the World Cup, likening it to the European Championship, and conveyed that the team is entering the tournament with hope and optimism.
"We’re really looking forward to it; we know the World Cup is always a special tournament, just like the European Championship, so we’re heading there full of hope," he remarked.
Portugal has yet to clinch a FIFA World Cup title, with their best finish being third place in 1966. However, they are entering this tournament with a formidable squad, including standout players like Bruno Fernandes, who recently had an impressive season with Manchester United.
