Zverev Acknowledges Sinner's Excellence

In London on July 13, Alexander Zverev extended his heartfelt congratulations to Jannik Sinner after finishing as the runner-up in the men's singles final at Wimbledon 2026. He referred to Sinner as the "best player in the world" following the Italian's successful title defense.

During the post-match presentation, Zverev humorously noted his ongoing losing streak against the World No. 1, while also commending Sinner's remarkable consistency at the top level.

"First of all, Jannik, I have to say I’m not a fan of you right now. Losing to you nine times in a row isn’t easy," Zverev remarked with a grin.

"Congratulations to Jannik. He has once again demonstrated why he is the best player globally. It was an honor to share Centre Court with you during finals weekend. Although it didn’t go my way, I want to congratulate you first and foremost," he continued.

Zverev also took a moment to commend Sinner's coaching team, acknowledging their crucial role in his ascent from outside the top 10 to becoming a multiple Grand Slam champion and the current World No. 1.

"Kudos to Jannik’s team. You have been together for many years, and now you are World No. 1. You started from outside the top 10 and have worked your way up to being Grand Slam champions. It’s truly a team effort, and Jannik is the first to recognize that. Congratulations to all of you; you truly deserve it," Zverev stated.

Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title with a score of 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 against Zverev, marking his fifth Grand Slam victory and his first major title of the 2026 season.

This victory made Sinner the tenth player in history to retain the Wimbledon men’s singles title and extended his winning streak against Zverev to ten matches.

After an early exit at the French Open, Sinner bounced back to secure his sixth ATP title of the year, while Zverev's aspirations for consecutive Grand Slam titles were dashed despite reaching his second straight major final.
