Yuvraj Singh Returns to Delhi Capitals as Batting Coach
Yuvraj Singh's New Role with Delhi Capitals
Yuvraj Singh is set to rejoin the Delhi Capitals (DC) as their batting coach, collaborating with Sourav Ganguly, his inaugural captain for India. Yuvraj previously played for DC, then known as Delhi Daredevils, during the 2015 IPL season. The franchise invested heavily to secure his services, signing him for a whopping Rs 16 crore. However, his time with DC was less than stellar, as he accumulated only 248 runs at a strike rate of 118.09 and took just one wicket throughout the season. Following his stint with DC, Yuvraj moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before joining Punjab Kings and later the Mumbai Indians.
Reports indicate that Ganguly will return as the director of cricket for DC, with Yuvraj making his coaching debut in the IPL. This new coaching team will take over from Hemang Badani, Venugopal Rao, and Munaf Patel, as JSW prepares to manage the team for the upcoming two seasons.
Yuvraj has played a significant role in the development of players like Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Prabhsimran Singh. He has also worked closely with Rishabh Pant in preparation for IPL 2026. After retiring post-IPL 2019, Yuvraj concluded his career with 2750 runs and 36 wickets across 132 IPL matches, in addition to his international records of 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. Notably, he was awarded the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup, where he scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets.
Current Performance of Delhi Capitals
In the ongoing cycle, Delhi Capitals have faced challenges, failing to progress beyond the league stage. During the IPL 2025 mega-auction, they attempted to re-sign Rishabh Pant but could not match the Lucknow Super Giants' bid of Rs 27 crore. Axar Patel was appointed to lead the team, and DC started the IPL 2025 season strongly, being the first team to secure 10 points. However, their performance dipped in the latter half, preventing them from qualifying for the second round. Unfortunately, DC also did not make it to the second round of IPL 2026.
