New Delhi, September 15: Renowned Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has emphasized the significance of maintaining squad stability and ensuring players receive ample game time as India gears up for the 2027 ODI World Cup, as reported by a leading sports outlet.

Having been named Player of the Series during India's victorious 2011 ODI World Cup campaign, Yuvraj advised the team management to refrain from making drastic changes as the tournament approaches, advocating for a well-established squad over the coming year.

"It's crucial to focus on assembling a consistent team for the upcoming year, as last-minute changes can be detrimental," Yuvraj stated.

He further noted, "Regardless of whether your players are 16 or 20, it's vital that everyone gets sufficient game time, especially with the increasing number of T20 matches and the reduction in 50-over games. Every opportunity to play is essential for World Cup preparation," he added.

Yuvraj pointed out that India's past struggles in tournaments often stemmed from significant changes made at critical moments, stressing the importance of supporting the players chosen for the World Cup.

"India has faltered in the past when major alterations were made at the last minute or during the tournament. It's essential to stick with a team that we believe can win the 2027 World Cup and support them through successes and failures. Confidence in the squad is paramount," he remarked.

The former all-rounder also praised India's consistency in white-ball formats, suggesting that the immediate goal should be to cultivate a squad capable of adapting to various match scenarios.

"We have demonstrated considerable consistency in white-ball cricket. The focus should first be on qualifying for the semifinals and then aiming for the final two knockout matches. This is a long-term goal. The priority should be to prepare a cohesive squad ready to tackle any challenge," Yuvraj explained.

When discussing team dynamics, Yuvraj advised that player selection should be tailored to match conditions while ensuring the squad is filled with potential match-winners.

"Different countries have unique player profiles. Some teams may have more all-rounders, while others might focus on specialized batters and bowlers. It's essential to choose the best combination," he stated.

"The ideal combination will typically involve 12 to 14 players, with the final selection depending on conditions. Whether to include an additional spinner, fast bowler, or all-rounder should be based on the best fit. You need to select your top 11 match-winners who can secure victory," he added.

Yuvraj also referenced Australia's World Cup triumphs, attributing their success to their reliance on individual match-winners.

"Australia's success can be attributed to their ability to depend on individual players who can turn a game around. On any given day, one player steps up, and when the team faces challenges, they collectively rise to the occasion," he concluded.
