French Open 2026: Doubles Disappointment for Indo-Kiwi Pair
Paris [France], May 30: The men's doubles team of India's Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand's Michael Venus faced elimination at the French Open 2026, suffering a straight-sets loss in the second round at Roland Garros on Friday.
The duo was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by the fifth-seeded Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in a match that lasted one hour and 20 minutes, according to reports from Olympics.com.
Bolelli and Vavassori, both seasoned Olympians, took control early by breaking serve in the fourth game of the first set and again in the seventh game of the second set, securing their advancement to the third round.
Despite the setback in doubles, Bhambri continues his campaign in the mixed doubles category, having progressed past the first round with partner Alexandra Panova.
Their next challenge will be against the fourth-seeded team of Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski in the upcoming second round.
In another match later that day, Indian player N Sriram Balaji and Brazil's Marcelo Demoliner triumphed over the German duo of Mark Wallner and Jakob Schnaitter, winning 7-5, 6-2 in their men's doubles second round encounter.
The Indo-Brazilian pair secured a vital break in the 11th game of the first set and maintained their momentum to dominate the second set, breaking their opponents twice to clinch the match in one hour and 27 minutes.
Unfortunately, there is no Indian representation in the singles main draw, as Karman Thandi was unable to advance through the qualifiers.
