Tiruchirappalli Athletes Selected for International Roller Hockey Event

Two promising roller hockey athletes from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, have earned the opportunity to represent India in the junior category at the upcoming 2026 World Skate Games, scheduled to take place in Asuncion, Paraguay, from October 2 to 18.

Visakan and Naseer Shabiyulla, both of whom have been training at Hackers Sporting Club in Vadugapatti, secured their spots on the Indian junior roller hockey team after successfully completing selection trials held in Chandigarh.

Over 40 players, including numerous goalkeepers, participated in these trials, resulting in a final team of 12 players hailing from various states across India.

This achievement has brought significant recognition to Hackers Sporting Club, known for nurturing young roller hockey talent in the area. Coach Fazlul Karim expressed his pride in the players and extended his best wishes for their success in the international competition.

Officials from the Roller Skating Federation of India, along with representatives from the Tamil Nadu Roller Skating Association and the Tiruchirappalli District Roller Skating Association, joined club members, fellow athletes, and the players' families in congratulating the two young talents.

After being selected for the national team, Naseer Shabiyulla shared his excitement, noting that he has been training in roller hockey at Hackers Sporting Club for nearly a decade. He expressed gratitude for the support he received along the way.

“I am thrilled to represent India at the World Skate Games. My coach, Fazlul Karim, has been a guiding force in my journey for over ten years. I owe this achievement to him, my parents, and everyone who has supported me,” he stated.

Visakan also expressed his joy at being selected, stating that representing India has always been his aspiration. He thanked his coach, family, and the club for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

“Having practiced roller hockey for the last 12 years, I am elated to be chosen for the World Skate Games. Competing against over 40 participants, including several goalkeepers, makes this selection even more special,” he remarked.

“Realizing my dream of representing India would not have been possible without the support of Hackers Sporting Club and my coach, Fazlul Karim. My family, school, and everyone at my training ground share in this pride,” he concluded.
