Aryan Sharma's Journey to the U-19 Team

Brisbane, Australia - On September 22, Aryan Sharma, a 17-year-old cricketer, fulfilled his aspiration of representing Australia, inspired by Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli. Back in 2018, he sent a heartfelt message to Kohli, expressing his dream to play for Australia in 2025.

Sharma's journey began at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the Boxing Day Test in 2018, where he attended as an 11-year-old with a sign declaring his admiration for Kohli. Fast forward seven years, and Aryan found himself in the final lineup for the Australian U-19 team against India in Brisbane.

Reflecting on his journey, Aryan shared, "In 2018, I attended the Boxing Day Test with a poster that read, 'Virat, you are my inspiration. Watch me play for Australia in 2025.' I don't know why I picked that year, but it was my dream. Now, thanks to God, my family’s support, and years of dedication, I am part of the Australia U-19 team," as reported by a media outlet.

In his debut match, Aryan scored 10 runs off 14 balls, hitting one boundary before being dismissed by Kanishk Chouhan. He also bowled four overs, conceding 36 runs without taking a wicket.

The first youth ODI saw India U-19 triumph over Australia U-19 by seven wickets, with Abhigyan Kundu leading the charge with an impressive unbeaten 87. After winning the toss, Australia batted first, managing to score 225/9, thanks to John James's late fireworks, scoring 77 not out off 68 balls.

Despite promising performances from Aryan and others, it was Kundu and Vedant Trivedi, who scored 61 not out, that guided India to a commanding victory.
