Yogasana to Feature in Commonwealth Games 2030, Announces Sports Minister

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that Yogasana will be included as an indigenous sport in the Commonwealth Games 2030. This announcement coincides with the launch of the first World Yogasana Championship, set to take place in Ahmedabad from June 4 to June 8, featuring over 500 athletes from more than 75 countries. The championship aims to elevate Yogasana's global presence and is supported by various governmental bodies. With multiple competitive categories, this event marks a significant milestone in the journey towards Olympic recognition for Yogasana.
 

Yogasana's Inclusion in Commonwealth Games 2030

New Delhi [India] - On Tuesday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that Yogasana will be recognized as an indigenous sport during the Commonwealth Games scheduled for 2030 in India.


This statement was made in the national capital during the launch event for the inaugural World Yogasana Championship, which will take place from June 4 to June 8.


Mandaviya expressed, "Yogasana will be included as an indigenous sport when the Commonwealth Games are held in India in 2030," while addressing reporters.


The first-ever World Yogasana Sports Championship is set to occur in Ahmedabad, attracting participation from over 75 countries and more than 500 athletes. Mandaviya emphasized, "Yoga is not just a practice; it embodies our culture and lifestyle. This championship marks the beginning of a global journey for Yogasana, with future events planned in various cities worldwide."


The 2026 World Yogasana Championship is backed by several governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), among others. This collaboration aims to elevate Yogasana's status on the global sports stage.


Competitions will encompass various categories such as Traditional Yogasana, Artistic Yogasana, Rhythmic Pairs, and Team Events, with participants competing in junior, youth, and elite divisions, adhering to internationally recognized rules and judging standards.


This championship is seen as a significant step towards integrating Yogasana into major international multi-sport events and ultimately achieving Olympic recognition.
