Yashasvi Jaiswal's Century Highlights ODI Win, Faces Uncertain Future

Yashasvi Jaiswal's remarkable century in the third ODI against Afghanistan has drawn attention, but cricket analyst Aakash Chopra raises concerns about his future in the Indian team. Despite his impressive performance, Jaiswal's role appears uncertain as he has been dropped from the ODI squad for the upcoming England series, with Virat Kohli's return looming. This article explores Jaiswal's journey, his recent achievements, and the challenges he faces in securing a permanent spot in the team.

Jaiswal's Stellar Performance

In the third ODI against Afghanistan, Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 110 runs off just 86 balls, leading India to a comfortable victory. The team chased down a target of 219 runs in only 28.4 overs. After a disappointing return to the lineup in the previous match where he scored just 4 runs, Jaiswal's century marks his second in just six ODIs. However, despite his remarkable achievement, cricket analyst Aakash Chopra expressed concerns regarding Jaiswal's future in the team.

Chopra noted on his YouTube channel that Jaiswal seems to be on the fringes of the squad, often viewed as a backup option rather than a regular player. He emphasized the pressure Jaiswal faces, stating, 'You become a part of the Indian team at this level after six months, and one doesn't know whether he will play in the next six months or not.' He pointed out that Jaiswal's inclusion was primarily due to injuries to other players, including Virat Kohli and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Despite scoring a century in the last ODI against South Africa, Jaiswal was benched during the home series against New Zealand and was initially left out of the squad for the Afghanistan series. His recent performance has raised questions about his long-term role in the team.

Jaiswal Excluded from England ODI Squad

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been omitted from the ODI squad for the upcoming series against England, as Virat Kohli is set to return to the team, pending a successful fitness test. Currently, Jaiswal is only included in the Test squad and has not participated in a T20I match since 2024.
