Yashasvi Jaiswal Urged to Stay Patient Amid Intense Competition for ODI Spot

In Thiruvananthapuram, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak expressed his confidence in opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, encouraging him to remain patient despite the fierce competition for a spot in the team. Kotak described Jaiswal as "one of the best batters" and praised his consistent performances whenever he has had the chance.

Kotak emphasized the importance of Jaiswal continuing to hone his skills and maintain a positive mindset while he awaits his next opportunity. Although Jaiswal has been included in India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies, his position in the starting lineup, especially as an opener, is not guaranteed.

With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill being the favored opening pair, Jaiswal faces a challenge in securing his place and must be ready to seize any opportunity that comes his way.

Speaking to the media ahead of India's first ODI against the West Indies, Kotak acknowledged the high level of competition for team positions, noting that many players are performing well. "Jaiswal is undoubtedly one of the best batters, and he consistently delivers when given a chance," Kotak stated.

He added, "As part of the support staff, we focus on his skills, practice, and mindset. Gautam Gambhir also provides him with guidance. However, in situations where multiple talented players are vying for the same position, only one can play at a time."

Kotak reassured that Jaiswal's exclusion is not a matter of unfairness, urging him to keep working diligently and to be prepared for the next opportunity, as he has shown his capability whenever he has played.

Jaiswal participated in all three ODIs against Afghanistan at home but was later omitted from the squad for the tour of England.
