Glasgow [Scotland], July 31: Indian judoka Yamini Mourya earned a silver medal in the women's 57kg division at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after a fiercely contested final against England's Acelya Toprak, which concluded in defeat on Friday, as reported by a sports media outlet.

The match lasted nearly seven minutes, showcasing high intensity, but Yamini ultimately lost by Ippon after receiving a third Shido penalty during the Golden Score period. This result awarded Toprak the gold medal, while Yamini proudly secured silver for India.

The final commenced with Toprak, who is ranked No. 13 globally, taking the initiative and applying early pressure. Although the English judoka attempted a strong hold, Yamini demonstrated remarkable defensive skills, preventing herself from being pinned and remaining competitive.

As the match unfolded, both judokas vied for dominance, with penalties playing a crucial role. Yamini received two Shidos during the regular time, while Toprak was penalized once for non-combativity. Despite facing relentless attacks from her opponent, the Indian judoka maintained strong defense, pushing the contest into Golden Score.

During the extra period, both athletes were on the edge of defeat, each carrying two Shidos. Toprak continued to create offensive opportunities and ultimately forced the decisive moment when Yamini accrued her third penalty, leading to an Ippon victory for the English judoka.

Even though she missed out on gold, Yamini's silver medal contributed to India's remarkable judo performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Earlier that day, Asmita Dey clinched gold in the women's -48kg category, and Harsh Singh secured the men's -60kg title, marking a historic double gold for Indian judo.

India has now amassed a total of 20 medals in Glasgow, comprising five gold, ten silver, and five bronze.
