Yamini Mourya: Rising Star in Judo Aiming for Commonwealth Glory
Yamini Mourya's Journey in Judo
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 30: Yamini Mourya has emerged as a prominent figure in Indian judo, particularly in the women's 57kg division. She made history as the first Indian judoka to secure a medal at the FISU World University Games 2023, and her accolades have since expanded to include gold medals at the Asian Open 2025 and African Open 2026.
As she prepares for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Yamini aims to leverage her recent successes to tackle this significant international event. Judo, unlike many other sports, demands intense focus on each match, a philosophy that Yamini embodies as she approaches every competition.
“In judo, it’s crucial not to look too far ahead since each bout presents unique challenges. My concentration is always on the current match and applying the strategies we've practiced. My preparation has been solid, and I feel confident. The key now is to remain composed, make smart decisions during the match, and give my all in every fight,” she expressed.
Yamini has been actively competing on the international stage for several seasons, and she believes that each tournament has contributed to her growth in confidence and skill.
“Facing tough international competitors teaches valuable lessons every time. You learn where improvements are needed and what strategies work under pressure. These experiences have been instrumental in my development as an athlete, and I eagerly anticipate the challenge at the Commonwealth Games,” she stated.
Training at the Inspire Institute of Sport has provided Yamini with a conducive environment to enhance her athletic abilities.
“One of the greatest benefits of training at the Inspire Institute of Sport is the comprehensive support available in one location. From nutrition and physiotherapy to recovery and training, the system is designed to help us focus solely on judo. Being surrounded by athletes from various sports, all striving for the same goals, is incredibly motivating. It encourages me to push my limits every day and improve as an athlete,” Yamini remarked, as noted in a press release from the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS).
Representing India at another significant multi-sport event is a major source of inspiration for her.
“Wearing the India jersey is always a source of pride. Every athlete aspires to perform well for their country, and I share that sentiment. I will approach each bout with confidence, give my utmost effort, and hope to make India proud,” she concluded.
