WPL 2027 Mini-Auction Highlights

Kochi (Keralam) [India], October 28: In the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction, wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma was acquired by UP Warriorz for ₹30 lakh. Despite the excitement, many other wicketkeepers and international fast bowlers went without bids.

Sushma, who last participated in a T20 International nearly ten years ago, was previously a member of the Gujarat Giants during the inaugural WPL season in 2023. UP Warriorz successfully secured her at her base price of ₹30 lakh.

On the other hand, Uma Chetry, a key player from India’s ODI World Cup-winning team, went unsold at her base price of ₹30 lakh. Chetry, the first cricketer from Assam to represent India, had been with UP Warriorz but did not attract any bids this time.

Former Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia also went unsold, with no franchises showing interest in her services during the auction. Bhatia has a history with the Delhi Capitals in the league.

Nuzhat Parween, another player previously associated with UP Warriorz, also failed to find a buyer. Additionally, Saima Thakor, a swing bowler who made her debut in 2024, went unsold after not taking any wickets in the 2025 season.

Among international players, Australian fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck went unsold at her base price of ₹30 lakh, with no franchise bidding for her. Sri Lankan seam bowler Mithali Ayodhya, aged 19, also did not attract any bids. New Zealand's Rosemary Mair, a member of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2024, similarly went unsold at her base price.

Indian swing bowler Titas Sadhu, who was part of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2023, also went unsold. Sadhu has previously played for both Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants in the WPL.

The WPL 2027 mini-auction aimed to bolster team rosters ahead of the upcoming season, with 146 players available and 27 slots open across five teams.
