Wimbledon Highlights Indian Cricket Legends in Special Tribute
Celebrating Indian Cricket Icons at Wimbledon
London [UK], July 11: Wimbledon recently honored three generations of Indian cricket legends with a unique social media tribute featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill at the Championships.
The official Wimbledon account took to X to share a collage showcasing two significant moments from Centre Court, separated by over a decade. The images included Tendulkar and Kohli at Wimbledon in 2015, alongside a 2026 photo of Tendulkar seated next to Gill.
Wimbledon captioned the post, “Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill. Three generations of Indian cricketing royalty in one image.”
This post quickly garnered attention from both cricket and tennis enthusiasts, celebrating the presence of these three cricketing icons at the prestigious Grand Slam event.
Earlier, Tendulkar expressed his admiration for the high level of tennis showcased at Wimbledon after watching the men’s singles semifinals from Centre Court. He described Jannik Sinner’s performance as a “masterclass” and praised Alexander Zverev and Britain’s Arthur Fery for their impressive displays.
Tendulkar was among several sports legends in the Royal Box at Wimbledon, where he witnessed Zverev defeat Fery to secure his first Wimbledon final spot, followed by Sinner’s commanding victory over Serbian great Djokovic.
He was joined by former West Indies captain Brian Lara, with the two batting legends sharing the limelight after years of being fierce competitors and later teammates in charity matches. Current India Test captain Shubman Gill also graced the semifinals, adding to the cricketing legacy at Centre Court.
The Royal Box also included football stars like Liverpool and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk, along with Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe among the notable attendees.
In a post on X following the matches, Tendulkar reflected on an exhilarating day at the All England Club, stating, “Wimbledon, you never disappoint! What a privilege to witness two brilliant semifinals today. The fight and belief shown by Fery was wonderful to watch, while Zverev’s big serve played a crucial role in a hard-fought win.”
Tendulkar also commended world No. 1 Jannik Sinner after the Italian’s straight-sets victory over seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, saying, “And then came Jannik Sinner’s masterclass. The way he combined power with control across every shot was remarkable. Novak competed till the very end, but Jannik was at his absolute best today.”
He concluded by celebrating the essence of sports and expressing his anticipation for the Wimbledon final, stating, “Days like these are why we love sport. Looking forward to more magic on Centre Court!”
