West Indies Women Gear Up for T20I Challenge

St. Johns [Antigua], March 13: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed the roster for the West Indies Women’s team ahead of their T20I series against Australia, scheduled from March 19 to 23 at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Maroon Warriors will maintain their current squad as they prepare to face the world’s top-ranked team in what is expected to be an exhilarating series on home turf, as stated by CWI.

This series is crucial for the team as they gear up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year in the UK, providing an excellent chance for the Caribbean side to gauge their capabilities against one of the sport’s leading teams.

The upcoming matches follow a competitive home series against the Sri Lankan women’s team, which offered the West Indies valuable match experience.

Although Sri Lanka won the three-match ODI series 2-1, the West Indies showcased their resilience in the final match, with captain Hayley Matthews scoring a remarkable century to secure a six-wicket victory and avoid a clean sweep.

The squad features a mix of seasoned players and promising young talent. Senior figures like Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, and captain Hayley Matthews bring invaluable experience, while wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle is on the brink of achieving her 150th T20 International cap during this series.

Young talents Eboni Brathwaite (17) and Jahzara Claxton (19) inject youthful vigor into the team as they aim to challenge Australia’s supremacy and build momentum in a crucial year for white-ball cricket.

Head Coach Shane Deitz expressed enthusiasm about the chance to compete against the world’s best in Caribbean conditions.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to play against the number one-ranked ODI and T20 team globally. With the World Cup approaching, it’s an ideal time to assess our preparations. Competing against the best will help us identify our strengths and areas for improvement as we look ahead to the tournament in June in England,” Deitz remarked.

He further noted, “This series will be challenging, but the players are ready to rise to the occasion. We haven’t faced them in a competitive match since October 2023, so it will be interesting to see how much we’ve progressed since then, particularly in areas where we need to enhance our performance. Our players are eager to showcase their skills and talents during this tour, which promises to be exciting for everyone involved.”

After the T20Is, both teams will head to Warner Park in St. Kitts and Nevis for a three-match ODI series.
