West Indies Clinch Victory in Second T20I

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 10: In a gripping encounter at the JSCA International Stadium, India’s captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the impressive performance of the West Indies batters after they successfully chased down a target of 250 runs, defeating India by six wickets in the second T20I.

India set a formidable score of 249/5 in their 20 overs, with standout performances from Sanju Samson, who scored 82 runs off 41 balls, and contributions from Ishan Kishan (43), Shreyas Iyer (40), and Tilak Varma (44). However, West Indies captain Shai Hope led the charge with a remarkable 102 not out off just 45 balls, supported by Sherfane Rutherford, who added 84 runs off 37 balls, and Romario Shepherd, who finished with 34 runs off 13 balls. The visitors reached 252/4 in just 18.3 overs, leveling the five-match series at 1-1.

In his post-match remarks, Shreyas Iyer noted that the dew factor complicated the determination of a safe total, leaving little room for mistakes. He praised the West Indies for their batting prowess and highlighted the contributions of Samson, Abhishek, and Mayank Yadav.

“The dew factor plays a significant role. It’s hard to set a number. The margin for error on this pitch was minimal. Any slight mistake resulted in runs. We had a few missed opportunities, but that’s part of the game. Credit to them for batting exceptionally well. Regarding Mayank and Samson, both were outstanding. This is the kind of performance we expect from Sanju and Abhishek. Their contributions, along with Mayank’s, were crucial for us,” he stated.

This victory marked West Indies' highest successful run chase in T20I history and stands as the second-highest successful chase in the format, following South Africa's chase of 259 against West Indies in Centurion earlier this year.

Despite Mayank Yadav’s impressive bowling figures of 3/36 in three overs, India’s bowlers struggled to contain the West Indies' batting attack. Kuldeep Yadav finished with 1/53 in four overs, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel conceded 45 and 63 runs respectively in their spells.
