West Indies Set to Face Pakistan in Test Series

The West Indies are gearing up to compete against Pakistan in a two-match Test series starting on July 25. This series is crucial for the World Test Championship 2025-27, featuring several prominent players from the Caribbean team. However, they will be without one of their star fast bowlers, Alzarri Joseph, who has opted out of the series. Head coach Darren Sammy expressed his disappointment, revealing that Joseph declined the selection despite being chosen for the matches.

During a press conference ahead of the series opener, Sammy stated that Joseph's absence is a significant setback for the team. He mentioned that he was unaware of the reasons behind Joseph's decision, especially since the bowler was returning from an injury. Sammy indicated that the matter would be left to the board to address. "It’s a big loss. Mr. Joseph has declined selection. That’s the reality of the situation," he remarked. "He was selected, and for reasons since, he has declined the selection. That is a decision that is way over my head. I leave that with the directors to come up with whatever solutions where contracted players get to decline selection," he added.

Despite Joseph's absence, Sammy remains confident in the team's bowling capabilities. "What I could tell you is that we have a bowling line-up that we've seen could take 20 wickets," he stated. He referenced previous performances against New Zealand and Australia, highlighting the team's ability to match their opponents with the ball. Sammy also noted the improvement in the batting lineup, which has shown more consistency in recent matches, particularly during the Test series against Sri Lanka. He believes that if the batsmen can score runs, the team has the bowling strength to secure victories in Test matches.
