Akram's Worries for Imran Khan

Wasim Akram, the renowned cricketer, has recently expressed his deep concerns regarding the health of his close friend and former captain of Pakistan, Imran Khan. He emphasized that there should be no compromises when it comes to Khan's well-being.

Few legends from Pakistan have publicly supported the 1992 World Cup-winning captain, who has been incarcerated since 2022 due to multiple corruption convictions, which he firmly denies.

Akram shared his sentiments with the Athletic, stating, “It’s unfortunate what’s happening politically with him. The judicial system is what it is, but his health must be prioritized.”

Recently, Brian Lara, the iconic West Indies batsman, joined a group of former international captains advocating for adequate medical care for the 73-year-old Imran.

A collective of 22 former captains sent an open letter to Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, urging for humane treatment and proper medical attention for Imran.

Akram noted, “There’s a movement in England and other places to improve Imran’s situation, but I’m uncertain about the efforts here in Pakistan.”

He added, “I’m genuinely concerned for him as a person, regardless of his legal status. His health is paramount. The government claims he is fine, but I have my doubts. I miss him dearly.”

Javed Miandad, another former teammate of Imran, has also voiced his worries regarding the health of the cricketing icon.
