Thiruvananthapuram (Keralam) [India], September 27: After a remarkable century that led India to victory against the West Indies in the opening ODI, Virat Kohli, who is now focused solely on the 50-over format, expressed that concentrating on fewer formats has enhanced his clarity on the field, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching.

Kohli emphasized the importance of seizing every chance by staying in peak physical condition, maintaining high energy levels during matches, and continuously refining various elements of his gameplay.

He highlighted his desire to enjoy the game rather than succumb to pressure or anxiety, aiming to play with a positive mindset. Kohli, who concluded the match with two sixes, pointed out the necessity of balancing aggressive batting with caution, leveraging his experience to ensure his strategy benefits the team.

“Clarity is key. With the World Cup a year away, I have a clear goal. In pursuit of 296 runs, Kohli remained not out at 139 off 88 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and nine sixes with a strike rate exceeding 157. His nine sixes marked a personal best for a single ODI innings.

With this performance, Kohli's ODI career total reached 15,080 runs across 315 matches and 303 innings, boasting an impressive average of 59.13, which includes 55 centuries and 79 fifties, with a top score of 183.

The West Indies, batting first, set a target of 296 runs, thanks to Justin Geaves' century and Amir Jangoo's 58 off 43 balls. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, restricting the opposition under 300 runs despite a strong opening partnership of 135 runs.

In the second innings, while captain Shubman Gill scored 110, it was Kohli's unbeaten 139 that ultimately clinched the match for India against the West Indies.
