New Delhi [India] - Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli is set to participate in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which kicks off on December 24, according to insider reports.

The 37-year-old, who has transitioned to an ODI-only player after retiring from Test cricket in May and T20Is following last year's World Cup victory, has confirmed his participation to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

If Kohli takes the field for Delhi, it will mark his first appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy since 2010, where he amassed 229 runs across five matches, averaging 45.80 with two half-centuries. All group stage matches for Delhi will wrap up by January 8, just days before the first ODI against New Zealand on January 11 in Vadodara. Kohli will compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches in Karnataka, as there are no fixtures scheduled for Delhi in his home state.

Earlier this year, Kohli made a return to the Ranji Trophy, playing against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, marking his first Ranji appearance since 2012. Unfortunately, he scored only six runs in his sole innings, although Delhi secured victory by an innings and 19 runs.

Throughout his 340 List-A matches, Kohli has accumulated 15,832 runs at an impressive average of 56.94, including 56 centuries and 83 fifties, with a top score of 183. This tally encompasses all his one-day appearances for India and other levels.

In 2023, Kohli has shown remarkable form in ODIs, scoring 484 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53.77, with a strike rate nearing 90, including two centuries and three fifties. His last ODI performance was a standout, where he scored a commanding 135 runs off 120 balls, contributing significantly to India's 17-run victory over South Africa in Ranchi. He will aim to replicate this success in the upcoming second ODI on Wednesday.
