Vikas Katyal Takes Charge as Team Manager

In a significant development for Indian cricket, Vikas Katyal, a director at the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), has been named the manager of the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming home series against the West Indies.

The DDCA announced this appointment, highlighting it as a proud moment for the association and a testament to Delhi's cricket governance on a national scale.

The series against the West Indies will consist of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals, taking place in various cities across India.

According to the DDCA, Katyal's new role is a notable accomplishment for the association, as it reflects the trust placed in one of its directors to oversee the national team during this important series.

The DDCA expressed its congratulations to Vikas Katyal and extended best wishes to him and the Indian team as they prepare for the West Indies matches.

The series will kick off with the first ODI, led by Shai Hope for the West Indies, scheduled to start at 2 PM IST.

The initial ODI is set for September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3.

Cricket West Indies has already announced its squads for the ODIs and T20Is, with the tour spanning from September 27 to October 18 across eight different cities.

John Campbell makes a return to the ODI lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury that sidelined him during the last two matches against New Zealand. Jewel Andrew has been brought in to replace Ackeem Auguste, who is still recovering from surgery.

Shimron Hetmyer, who participated in the last two ODIs against New Zealand, will join the T20I squad after receiving additional recovery time following the Caribbean Premier League.

The first two ODIs will conclude the qualification cycle for the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup. However, the West Indies will not be able to surpass their closest competitors in the standings, necessitating their participation in the qualification tournament next year.

On the Indian side, Shubman Gill will captain the team, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. The squad also includes seasoned players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, providing an opportunity for India to evaluate its players as they gear up for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj are back in the ODI setup, while Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi and Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir have received their first ODI call-ups.

The West Indies ODI squad includes: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Vitel Lawes, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jayden Seales.

The Indian ODI squad comprises: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (vice-captain), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Naman Dhir.
