New Leadership at KSCA

On December 8, Venkatesh Prasad, a former Indian cricketer, was elected as the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in Bengaluru. Alongside him, Sujith Somasunder has been appointed as Vice-President, and Santosh Menon returns as Secretary, a role he previously held from 2019 to 2022.

Prasad triumphed in the election, defeating K N Shanta Kumar by a margin of 191 votes, securing a total of 749 votes compared to Shanta Kumar's 558.

In other election results, former umpire BK Ravi was elected Joint Secretary with 669 votes, while BN Madhukar won the Treasurer position against MS Vinay, garnering 736 votes.

Previously, Prasad served as the KSCA vice president from 2010 to 2013 and has played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs for the Indian national team.

The KSCA elections were initially set for November 30 but were postponed, which Prasad expressed disappointment over. He emphasized the need for the elections to focus on cricket rather than politics.

“We were shocked to hear about the delay until December 30. Our main goal is to enhance cricket at Chinnaswamy Stadium and ensure the return of international matches and IPL games. It’s crucial that these elections occur to allow a new committee to implement its vision,” Prasad stated during a media interaction.

He further added, “The KSCA is at a critical point and requires change. Cricket is currently facing challenges, and with the season already in progress, it’s essential for the elections to proceed. We respect the Election Commission's decisions, but this postponement was unexpected.”
