Prague [Czech Republic], November 3: Velavan Senthilkumar from India has emerged victorious in the men's singles category at the Czech Open 2026 squash tournament held in Brno on Monday (local time). He defeated Scotland's top seed and world No. 31, Greg Lobban, with a score of 3-1 (13-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7) in the final of this PSA Copper-level event.

The fourth-seeded player showcased remarkable skill and determination, particularly in the tightly contested first game. After trailing 6-10, Senthilkumar saved four game points and rallied to win the opener 13-11, according to reports from Olympics.com.

Building on this momentum, the 28-year-old secured the second game 11-5, taking a 2-0 lead. Although Lobban managed to clinch the third game 11-8, Senthilkumar maintained his composure in the fourth game, finishing the match with an 11-7 victory to claim the championship.

This win marks Senthilkumar's 12th title on the PSA Squash Tour and his second Copper-level championship, having previously won his first at the Budapest Open in August.

Currently ranked world No. 42, Senthilkumar had a strong tournament run. After receiving a bye in the first round, he began with a decisive 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-2) win against Brazil's Diego Gobbi in the second round.

He continued his impressive performance by defeating eighth seed Jeremias Azana from Argentina 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-7) in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, he overcame second seed and world No. 32 Auguste Dussourd from France with another 3-0 victory (11-7, 12-10, 11-1), securing his spot in the final.

Senthilkumar's recent success follows his achievements at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, where he earned two bronze medals—one in mixed doubles alongside Joshna Chinappa and another with the Indian men's team.

This latest title further enhances India's reputation in squash as the sport gears up for its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
