Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Meteoric Rise
New Delhi, December 6: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricket prodigy from India, has captured global attention by ranking as the sixth-most searched individual in the "people" category of Google's 'Year in Search 2025'. Notably, he holds the title of the most searched person in India this year.
Last year, Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player to secure an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract, signing with the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crores. His career has seen remarkable achievements over the past year.
Before his IPL debut, he scored a remarkable century off just 58 balls for India in a four-day match against Australia U19 and participated in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in 2024, amassing 176 runs at an average of 44, including two fifties.
He made his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, stepping in for the injured captain Sanju Samson. Suryavanshi hit a six on his very first ball from Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, finishing with 34 runs off 20 balls. In his inaugural IPL season, he accumulated 252 runs in just seven innings, averaging 36.00, with one century and one fifty. His century against the Gujarat Titans made him the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket, breaking the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian in just 35 balls, featuring seven fours and 11 sixes.
Following the IPL, during the India U19 team's tour of England, he set a record for the fastest century in U19 ODI history, scoring 143 runs off 78 balls, including 13 fours and 10 sixes, at a strike rate of 183.33. His century came off just 52 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Pakistan's Kamran Ghulam.
Suryavanshi was the leading run-scorer in the ODI series, amassing 355 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 71.00 and a strike rate of 174.01, including one century and one fifty.
His upward trajectory continued with a stunning 144 runs off just 42 balls against UAE A for India A during the Rising Stars Asia Cup, where he scored his century in just 32 balls, marking it as the joint-third-fastest century for India in T20s. He was the top scorer in the semifinal, accumulating 239 runs in four innings at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 243.87.
In a recent match during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Maharashtra, he became the youngest player to score a century in the tournament's history, achieving 108 runs off 61 balls, including seven fours and seven sixes, at a strike rate exceeding 177.
In his first-class career, Suryavanshi has played eight matches, scoring 207 runs at an average of 17.25, with a top score of 90. In List-A cricket, he has made 132 runs in six matches at an average of 22.00, including a half-century.
His T20 performances have been exceptional, with 690 runs in 17 matches at an average of 43.12, featuring three centuries and one fifty, with a highest score of 144.
