Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Ambition

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has expressed his desire to surpass Chris Gayle's record of 175 runs, which stands as the highest individual score in IPL history. The year 2025 marked a significant milestone for Suryavanshi, who gained attention as the youngest player to hit a century in the IPL. His impressive performance in U19 cricket included centuries against teams from England and Australia. Earlier this year, he played a pivotal role in leading India to victory over England in the ICC U19 World Cup final by scoring a remarkable 175 runs.

During the Naman awards, sports commentator Harsha Bhogle posed a question to Suryavanshi about which record he would prefer to break in IPL 2026. The options included hitting six sixes in an over, achieving the fastest century in IPL history, or breaking the highest individual score in the league. Without hesitation, Suryavanshi chose to aim for Gayle's record, stating, “To break the 175-run record,” during the BCCI Naman Awards held in New Delhi.

He further emphasized that his primary objective is to secure trophies for his team, believing that if he remains focused on this goal, his individual performances will naturally improve. “My goal this season is to win trophies for the team, as it’s very important. If we follow that ambition, I am sure my performances will come out well, and everyone will benefit from it – franchise, players, coaches,” he remarked.
