Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Fitness Key to Future Success, Says VVS Laxman
Sooryavanshi's Promising Performance in Zimbabwe
Harare [Zimbabwe], July 27: VVS Laxman, the interim head coach for India, emphasizes the importance of fitness for the young batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to reach his full potential.
Sooryavanshi displayed his remarkable skills by scoring an impressive 81 runs off just 49 balls, contributing to India's 35-run victory against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
His outstanding performance not only secured the win but also made him the top run-scorer of the series, accumulating 151 runs across three matches, which earned him his first Player of the Series accolade.
This achievement follows his exceptional showing at the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, where the 15-year-old showcased his capabilities, hinting at a bright future for the aggressive left-handed batsman.
Despite the cricket community's admiration for Sooryavanshi's batting prowess, Laxman has identified fitness as a crucial area for improvement if the teenager aims to maintain his upward trajectory.
“We want him to enhance his overall fitness,” Laxman stated, as reported by the ICC website. “He is very young and is eager to improve in every facet of the game. Even after sustaining an injury while attempting a diving catch, he was keen to remain on the field. It was our physio who advised him to take a break. This eagerness to contribute shows his commitment to the team,” he added.
Laxman has played a significant role in Sooryavanshi's swift rise, having guided India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year as the BCCI's Head of Cricket. The young star excelled, scoring 439 runs to become the tournament's leading run-scorer and winning the Player of the Tournament award.
This remarkable journey is complemented by his impressive performances for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League over the last two seasons.
