Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: The Young Sensation Set to Shine in IPL
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Remarkable IPL Journey
At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is making waves in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has already set numerous records. He is poised to become a key player for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and is on the brink of making his debut for the national team, which could see him surpass Sachin Tendulkar's record as the youngest international cricketer from India. When RR acquired him for a staggering ₹1.1 crore during the 2025 IPL mega auction, it raised eyebrows, given that he is only 13 years old. However, Zubin Bharucha, the Director of High Performance for RR, encouraged the franchise to invest heavily in him, suggesting they should have spent ₹10 crore. Notably, Bharucha had previously advised the Royals to sign Yashasvi Jaiswal four years ago.
Bharucha expressed his astonishment during the franchise's trials in Talegaon, Maharashtra, where he witnessed Sooryavanshi hit a six off the very first ball he faced from a left-arm pacer. He recalled the moment fondly, comparing it to his first encounter with Jaiswal, who also made an impression during his trials. Bharucha reminisced, 'It reminded me of the first ball I saw Jaiswal face at a trial at DY Patil Stadium - he walked across and flicked it over short fine leg for four.' He also mentioned Sanju Samson's impressive debut, where he hit a bouncer onto the roof of the indoor stadium.
Furthermore, Bharucha shared how a six off a sidearm specialist bowling at 157 km/h solidified his belief in Sooryavanshi's talent. He recounted, 'After the trials finished, I sent everyone away. I didn't want to embarrass the others, so I called Vaibhav back alone.' He instructed the sidearm bowlers to bowl at full pace, and Sooryavanshi's response was calm and collected. Bharucha noted, 'The way he was leaving the balls felt like there was no pace on them.' Eventually, Sooryavanshi hit a delivery straight over the sightscreen for six, clocking in at 157 kph. Bharucha concluded, 'That's not normal. To do that off your fourth or fifth ball facing that pace - that's when you know this is something incredibly special.' He confidently stated, 'He's Jaiswal multiplied by two already. You're looking at something incredible… Can't believe he has come to our doorstep. Don't miss this chance.'
