Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines in T20 Series Against Zimbabwe
Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance
In Harare, Zimbabwe, on July 27, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 81 runs off just 49 balls, leading India to a 35-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third T20 match.
This remarkable innings capped off a successful series for Sooryavanshi, who accumulated a total of 151 runs across three matches, earning him the Player of the Series title as India clinched the series 3-0.
Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi had already made headlines during the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament, showcasing his exceptional talent.
The young left-handed batsman has consistently demonstrated his potential with aggressive batting and a maturity that belies his age.
Despite a slow start to his international career against England, where he scored 14, 13, and 15 runs, interim head coach VVS Laxman remains optimistic about Sooryavanshi's growth, stating that his development is progressing as expected.
“His career has been on expected lines,” Laxman commented, as reported by a sports media outlet. “Last year, when he debuted for the Rajasthan Royals, his ability to handle pressure was commendable. Playing in the IPL at such a young age is akin to playing at the international level. He embraced the pressure instead of being overwhelmed by it,” he added.
Laxman expressed confidence in Sooryavanshi's future, noting that he possesses the talent, attitude, and mindset necessary for continuous improvement.
“I’m not surprised by his performance in this series. He was a bit disappointed not to score a century, but we reassured him that there will be many more opportunities ahead. He has a bright future and the potential to set records at the international level,” Laxman concluded.
