Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines in IPL with Record-Breaking Performance
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Stellar IPL Start
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi kicked off the 2026 Indian Premier League in spectacular fashion, achieving a remarkable fifty off just 15 balls. Known for being the youngest player to score a century in IPL history, Sooryavanshi has been consistently performing well in List A and youth cricket. However, there were lingering doubts about his ability to sustain that performance against top-tier bowlers in the IPL. In a match against CSK, he silenced his critics with an impressive display.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed his admiration for Sooryavanshi's talent, initially skeptical about the hype surrounding the 15-year-old. Kaif had previously suggested that young players should be given time to develop before being thrust into high-pressure situations. However, after witnessing Sooryavanshi's recent performances, he now believes the young talent is ready for the next level. Kaif stated, “Last season, I thought Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was getting hyped way too early. An old-school cricketer, I believe there should be no haste in fast-tracking young players. But a year later, I think he is ready to graduate to the next level. The 15-year-old can entertain and play match-winning knocks,” on X (formerly Twitter).
Sooryavanshi's Limitless Potential
Sooryavanshi made a significant impact for the Rajasthan Royals last season, stepping in due to an injury to Sanju Samson. He made an immediate impression by hitting a six off his very first ball. He later set the record for the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL, reaching the milestone in just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans. His IPL success translated into outstanding performances in U19 cricket, where he amassed runs for India U19 in various international tournaments, culminating in a stunning 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England.
In his latest match, Sooryavanshi scored a quickfire 52 off 17 balls, leading the Rajasthan Royals to a commanding victory over the Chennai Super Kings. After restricting CSK to a mere 127 runs, RR secured the win with eight wickets in hand and 47 balls remaining.
