In a remarkable display of talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made headlines during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) as he broke Chris Gayle's long-standing record for the most sixes in a single T20 tournament. The 15-year-old showcased his skills under pressure, scoring a blistering half-century off just 16 balls while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator match held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. Sooryavanshi's explosive innings included eight sixes in his first 16 deliveries, contributing significantly to the Royals' impressive powerplay total of 80 runs, with 60 of those runs coming from his bat in just 20 balls.


Sooryavanshi Sets New Record

With a total of 65 sixes in the 2026 IPL season, Sooryavanshi has surpassed Chris Gayle's previous record of 59 sixes, which had stood for 14 years. Gayle set this record during the 2012 IPL season while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Notably, no Indian player had previously managed to hit 50 sixes in a single T20 tournament.
