India's Upcoming T20I Series Against Ireland

India is gearing up for its inaugural T20I series of the season, facing Ireland in two matches scheduled for June 26 and 28 in Belfast. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has included Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the squad, marking his first call-up to the national team. He is set to participate in the T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026 in Japan. Fans are eager to see Sooryavanshi make his debut in the opening match against Ireland, potentially becoming the youngest Indian to play international cricket.

On the eve of the match, Cheteshwar Pujara shared insights regarding Sooryavanshi's chances of playing. He expressed skepticism about any alterations to India's top three batting order, which includes Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan. Pujara stated, "I don't foresee any changes in the top three. Both Sanju and Ishan will definitely be in the starting XI. However, when India rotates players, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will likely feature in at least one of the matches," during an interview on Star Sports.

Sooryavanshi, an opening batsman, finds himself in competition with Sharma, Samson, and Kishan. Currently, Abhishek and Samson are set to open the innings, with Kishan positioned at number three. This leaves no room at the top of the order, meaning the team management would need to drop one of the current openers to make space for Sooryavanshi.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's IPL Success

In IPL 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his talent by winning the Orange Cap, amassing an impressive 776 runs across 16 innings. With a remarkable strike rate of 237.30, he hit 72 sixes and 63 fours, outperforming all other players, none of whom exceeded 750 runs.

Sooryavanshi was also a key player for the India A team, which triumphed in a tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. After a period of underwhelming performances, he excelled in the final, scoring 94 runs off just 29 balls, and became the fastest player to reach a half-century in List A cricket, achieving the milestone in just 11 balls.
