Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Poised for T20I Debut with India
Sooryavanshi's Potential Call-Up
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the Rajasthan Royals opener, is on the verge of receiving his first call-up to the Indian national team following an impressive performance in IPL 2026. He is expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, which is set for June 26 and 28. After the matches in Ireland, the Indian team will head to England for a series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs. Subsequently, they will travel to Zimbabwe for three T20Is scheduled for July 23, 25, and 26. Should Sooryavanshi debut in either the Ireland or Zimbabwe series, he will make history as the youngest Indian to play international cricket, surpassing the current record held by Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days during a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi. He also holds the record for the youngest ODI debutant for India, achieving this milestone at 16 years and 238 days during the same tour. The second-youngest player to debut for India is Piyush Chawla, who was 17 years and 75 days old when he played his first Test against England in 2006. Washington Sundar currently holds the record for the youngest T20I player for India, debuting at 18 years and 80 days against Sri Lanka in December 2017.
