Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Takes on Vice-Captain Role

Fifteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been appointed as the vice-captain of the East Zone team, which will be led by Ishan Kishan, for the upcoming Duleep Trophy set to commence next month.

The squad predominantly features players from Bengal and Jharkhand, but Sooryavanshi's selection as vice-captain for his first red-ball zonal tournament highlights his potential as a versatile player across formats.

Notably, he is the sole representative from Bihar in the team.

The squad includes seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami, along with international players Mukesh Kumar and Shahbaz Ahmed, as well as former India A captain Abhimanyu Easwaran.

The selection meeting took place at Eden Gardens, where zonal selectors also conferred with CAB president Sourav Ganguly.

In addition to captain Kishan, Jharkhand contributes India A players Kumar Kushagra and Anukul Roy to the lineup.

Harsh Vardhan, president of the Bihar Cricket Association, expressed pride in Sooryavanshi's achievement, stating, "His appointment as vice-captain at such a young age is a significant honor for Bihar cricket. His remarkable performances and mature gameplay have garnered the selectors' confidence."

The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to run from August 23 to September 6 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The East Zone Squad includes: Ishan Kishan (captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (vice-captain), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sudip Kumar Gharami, Shahbaz Ahmed, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Mohammed Shami, Mukesh Kumar, Kumar Kushagra, Shikjar Mohan, Anukul Roy, Virat Singh, Subhransu Senapati, Denish Das, and Abhijit Sarkar.
