India's Opening Pair Retained for T20I Series

In the first T20I of the two-match series against Ireland, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did not make his debut as the team management opted to keep the successful opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. This pair had previously led India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup with their explosive start. Despite being a strong contender for a spot in the lineup, Sooryavanshi had to wait for his chance. During the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer explained the decision, stating, "Unfortunately, no. He’s a gun player. But obviously, we’ve got tremendous experience in the squad who have done brilliantly in the past couple of series for India. So we are backing the majority of our cricketers who have been performing exceptionally well throughout the season. I believe he will get his opportunity when the time is right. For now, we are going with three genuine seamers, one all-rounder, and two spinners," Iyer mentioned.
