Urvil Patel, a standout player for the Chennai Super Kings, recently opened up about his conversation with cricket legend MS Dhoni. This discussion took place after Urvil made headlines by breaking IPL records during a match against LSG. He achieved the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history, reaching this milestone in just 13 balls at Chepauk. His explosive performance included five consecutive sixes, contributing to a remarkable total of 65 runs off just 23 deliveries, leading CSK to victory. Although Urvil had previously shown promise with scores of 17 off 9 against DC and 24 off 12 against MI, he struggled to convert these starts into significant innings.

Guidance from MS Dhoni

Urvil Patel Reveals MS Dhoni's Advice

Seeking guidance, Urvil turned to Dhoni for support. In an interview with the IPL website, he shared that Dhoni expressed complete confidence in his abilities, attributing his struggles to mental barriers. The 27-year-old recounted, 'After my dismissals in the last two matches, I spoke with Mahi bhai in the dressing room. I asked him, ‘Brother, I’m getting starts but getting out. What should I do to convert them?’ He reassured me, saying, ‘I have no doubts about your skills. The only doubts are in your mind. Stay mentally clear and focus on hitting the right balls in the right areas.’

A Heartfelt Tribute to His Father

During his celebration after reaching fifty, Urvil paid a heartfelt tribute to his father. Despite his recent performances, he revealed that his father has always been supportive of his big-hitting style. 'I was getting good starts but then getting out. My father was the only one telling me, ‘Son, I really enjoy the way you are batting. Just keep playing like this. Whether you score runs or not doesn’t matter to me.’ I have always played for my father. He kept encouraging me, saying, ‘Play freely; we don’t want anything from you. We are happy just because you are here,’' Urvil shared.

CSK's Current Standing

Currently, CSK holds the fifth position in the points table, having secured three consecutive wins. They are set to face LSG again in their next match on Friday, May 15, as they aim to secure a playoff spot.
