UP Prometheans Bring New Energy to UTT
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 31: The upcoming Season 7 of Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) is set to welcome a vibrant new addition from Uttar Pradesh, the UP Prometheans, infusing the league with the enthusiasm and sporting spirit of India's heartland.
Scheduled to take place in July in Goa, this season represents a significant milestone in UTT's mission to create a dynamic and competitive league, according to a recent announcement. The franchise, owned by entrepreneur Mukesh Sharma, aims to enhance India's high-performance sports ecosystem.
With the introduction of UP Prometheans, UTT is not only diversifying its team lineup but also enhancing its regional representation, as this franchise replaces Chennai in the league's evolving structure. This change is expected to introduce a new competitive edge, alongside a revised format that includes an expanded group stage for the upcoming season.
Ekansh Gupta, CEO of Ultimate Table Tennis, expressed enthusiasm about the league's expansion into Uttar Pradesh, stating, "The addition of UP Prometheans is a significant step, as UP is India's largest state with vast sporting potential. This move aligns with our goal of creating a league that genuinely reflects the diversity of our country. With increasing interest from stakeholders who share our vision, UTT is evolving both on and off the table."
Additionally, UP Prometheans will participate in the Dream UTT Juniors, a grassroots initiative by the Dream Sports Foundation in partnership with UTT, aimed at fostering young table tennis talent nationwide.
Mukesh Sharma shared his excitement about joining UTT, stating, "I am thrilled to be part of Ultimate Table Tennis, which has established a strong standard in previous seasons. With UP Prometheans, we aim to elevate the league further and create a team that embodies our dedication to excellence and high-performance sports. This is a crucial step towards enhancing India's journey to the Olympic podium."
Season 7 will feature seven teams competing in a single round-robin format, where each team will face every other team once during the league phase. The total number of matches will increase to 24, up from 23 in the last two seasons.
