Trump's Remarks on England's Victory

Washington, D.C., July 7: Following England's impressive victory against Mexico in the FIFA World Cup round of 16, U.S. President Donald Trump commended Harry Kane, labeling him a "fantastic player" and reminisced about their golf outings together.

During a press conference in Washington D.C., Trump expressed his excitement, stating, "I watched the game last night. It was thrilling to see England and Mexico compete. I may not know all the players, but I believe Kane is exceptional. I’ve played golf with him, and he’s not just a great player but also a good golfer. The match was captivating, and I couldn't look away."

With this win, England made history as the first team to defeat Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in FIFA World Cup history, where Mexico had previously maintained an unbeaten record over 10 matches. Before facing England, Mexico had only suffered two losses at this iconic venue since their debut there in 1966.

Prior to the match against England, Mexico had secured 70 victories and drawn 17 out of 89 games at the Azteca, showcasing their strong home advantage over the years. Kane played a crucial role in the 3-2 victory, scoring a penalty that marked his sixth goal of the tournament.

With this goal, Kane matched Gary Lineker's record of six goals, becoming the joint-highest English scorer in World Cup knockout history.

Jude Bellingham also made headlines by becoming the first player since Diego Maradona in 1986 to net two goals in a World Cup match at the Azteca Stadium, leading England to a thrilling 3-2 win over Mexico and securing a quarter-final match against Norway on July 11, as reported by ESPN. Maradona had achieved this against Belgium in the 1986 semi-finals.

This marks England's 11th appearance in a FIFA World Cup quarter-final, with only Brazil (15) and Germany (14) having more appearances at this stage.

In this match, Mexico conceded three goals at the Azteca for the first time since August 1999, when they lost 4-3 to Brazil. Remarkably, they allowed more goals in this game (3) than in their previous 10 World Cup matches at the stadium combined (2).

Despite Mexico's relentless efforts to equalize after trailing 2-3, England's defense held strong, securing their place in the quarter-finals, where they will meet Norway in Miami on July 11.
