Tripura CM Honors Asmita Dey for Historic Judo Gold at Commonwealth Games

On August 5, in New Delhi, Chief Minister Manik Saha of Tripura met with judoka Asmita Dey to celebrate her groundbreaking victory as the first Indian to win a Gold Medal in Judo at the Commonwealth Games.

During their meeting at Tripura Bhawan, the Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Asmita for her incredible accomplishment, highlighting her unwavering determination, discipline, and dedication, as noted in an official statement.

He remarked that her exceptional performance on the global stage has instilled immense pride in both Tripura and the entire nation.

“Asmita Dey’s remarkable success is a pivotal moment for Indian sports and a source of great pride for Tripura. Her commitment and excellence in sports have made our state and country proud,” stated Chief Minister Manik Saha.

“Her journey from Tripura to the pinnacle of international sports will inspire countless young athletes across the nation. The State Government is dedicated to fostering our youth, enhancing the sports ecosystem, and nurturing talented individuals to excel on both national and international platforms,” he added.

The Chief Minister wished Asmita continued success in her athletic pursuits and expressed confidence that she would achieve even more accolades for Tripura and India.

He assured her that the State Government would provide ongoing support and encouragement to help her reach new heights in her sporting career.

Asmita secured the women’s -48kg gold medal by defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in a thrilling final that went to Golden Score, marking India’s first judo gold medal at the Games.

She was later joined on the podium by Harsh Singh, who also won gold, Yamini Mourya, who took silver, and Unnati Sharma, who earned bronze, bringing India’s total judo medal count to four.
