Tragic Passing of CD Tenerife Striker Jesus de Miguel at 30
CD Tenerife Mourns the Loss of Jesus de Miguel
In a heartbreaking announcement, Spanish football club CD Tenerife confirmed the death of their striker, Jesus de Miguel, who was just 30 years old. This tragic event occurred following a cardiac arrest he suffered after colliding with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a LaLiga 2 match, as reported by various media outlets.
The incident unfolded in the seventh minute of stoppage time when the match was tied at 2-2. After the collision, de Miguel collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where he was placed in intensive care. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated, leading to his passing on Tuesday.
CD Tenerife expressed their grief in a statement, saying, "With heavy hearts and disbelief, we announce the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda."
The club further stated, "There are no words that can ease this overwhelming sadness."
The unfortunate incident occurred when Owono charged out of his penalty area to contest a long ball that de Miguel was pursuing. The collision was severe, resulting in de Miguel falling to the ground immediately.
Owono received a red card for his actions, which were described as a reckless tackle using excessive force while the ball was in play. After being sent off, the goalkeeper initially walked off the pitch but returned to check on de Miguel alongside players from both teams.
Medical personnel attended to de Miguel for over five minutes before he was transported to the hospital, leading to the abandonment of the match.
Initially, Tenerife reported that de Miguel was stable despite the seriousness of his condition. However, an update early Tuesday indicated that his neurological condition had worsened.
The club's announcement of his death also included a request from the family for privacy during this difficult time, stating, "The family of Jesus de Miguel appreciates all the support received and kindly asks for utmost respect for their privacy in these tragic moments."
