Tom Latham Matches Martin Crowe's Century Record in Test Cricket
Latham Achieves Milestone Against England
In Nottingham, on June 25, New Zealand's Tom Latham reached a significant milestone by equaling the legendary Martin Crowe's record as the joint third-highest century scorer for New Zealand in Test cricket.
This achievement came during the third Test match against England, where Latham scored an impressive 151 runs off 214 balls, hitting 15 boundaries and maintaining a strike rate exceeding 70.
With this century, Latham has now recorded 17 Test centuries, placing him alongside Crowe. Over his 95-Test career, he has amassed 6,446 runs at an average of 39.30 and a strike rate of over 48, including 17 centuries and 31 half-centuries, with a personal best of 264 not out. He currently ranks as New Zealand's fifth-highest run-scorer in Tests, just eight runs shy of surpassing Brendon McCullum's total of 6,453 runs to claim the fourth spot.
Ahead of Latham in the century rankings are Ross Taylor, who has 19 centuries in 112 Tests, and Kane Williamson, who leads with 33 centuries in 110 Tests.
In the ongoing match, Latham, alongside Devon Conway, who scored 157 runs off 224 balls with 22 fours and three sixes, formed the second-highest opening partnership for New Zealand, surpassing the previous record of 387 runs set by Glenn Turner and TW Jarvis against the West Indies in 1972.
New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first in this crucial series decider, having already surpassed the 350-run mark after losing two openers, with Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra at the crease.
