Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards 2024: Honoring India's Adventurers

Celebrating Adventure Excellence

On September 2, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports revealed the recipients of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards (TNNAA) for 2024. The prestigious awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the National Sports Awards 2025 ceremony.

The honored individuals include mountaineers Baljeet Kaur and Skalzang Rigzin, recognized in the Land Adventure category, Rimo Saha for Water Adventure, and Shiv Prasad Chamoli, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement award, as stated by the Ministry.

The specific date for the award ceremony will be announced later.

Each Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award comprises a bronze statuette, a certificate, a blazer with a silken tie (or saree), and a monetary prize of Rs 15 lakh. This award holds a status comparable to the Arjuna Awards and is conferred by the Government of India alongside the National Sports Awards.

These awards celebrate remarkable accomplishments in adventure sports and aim to foster qualities such as bravery, endurance, discipline, risk-taking, and teamwork.

The Ministry emphasized that the awards also aim to enhance decision-making skills in challenging situations and encourage broader participation in adventure activities nationwide.

The awardees were chosen based on recommendations from the National Selection Committee, which thoroughly evaluated nominations before finalizing the recipients.

Baljeet Kaur and Skalzang Rigzin were acknowledged for their land adventure feats, while Rimo Saha was selected for his contributions to water-based adventures. Shiv Prasad Chamoli will be honored for his lifetime contributions to the field.

The Ministry highlighted that these awards reflect the government's commitment to promoting adventure activities and fostering a culture of resilience, courage, and excellence among the youth of India.

Named after Tenzing Norgay, who, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, was one of the first confirmed climbers to reach Mount Everest's summit in 1953, the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards continue to inspire future generations.

The 2024 awards will be presented in conjunction with the National Sports Awards 2025, celebrating the nation's top sporting and adventure talents at the Rashtrapati Bhavan event.
