Preparations Underway for Khelo India Youth Games 2026

On August 11, Telangana's Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted a review meeting regarding the preparations for the Khelo India Youth Games 2026 at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute of Telangana (MCRHRD) in Hyderabad.

Key figures present at the meeting included Minister Vakiti Srihari, Government Advisor Ramakrishna Rao, Chairman of the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) Shivasena Reddy, Special Chief Secretary (Sports) Jayesh Ranjan, and SATG Managing Director Sony Bala Devi.

The state of Telangana is set to host the upcoming edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) in 2026, with the eighth edition scheduled for November this year.

This will mark the second time in three years that a southern Indian state will host the Khelo India Youth Games, following Tamil Nadu's hosting of the 2024 edition, while Bihar hosted the previous edition in May 2025.

In the 2025 KIYG, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Rajasthan secured the top three positions, while the host state Bihar finished in 15th place, and Telangana ranked 13th in the medal tally.

During the KIYG 2024, Tamil Nadu, the host, came in second behind Maharashtra, with Telangana finishing in sixth place. The Bihar edition featured 28 sports, awarding medals in 27 categories, and included e-sports as a demonstration event.

A total of 26 records were established during the KIYG 2025, including 13 national youth records in weightlifting, while the remaining records were set in athletics.
