Celebrating a Historic Win

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 17: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of Telangana honored Indian cricketer Tilak Varma after India's remarkable victory in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Indian team triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This victory signifies India's consecutive T20 World Cup titles, reinforcing the country's reputation as a dominant force in international cricket. The Men in Blue have also made history by becoming the first men's team to defend the T20 World Cup title successfully.

Tilak Varma, a left-handed batsman, contributed significantly to the team's success, amassing 207 runs across nine matches with an impressive strike rate of 154.47.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting praised the current Indian squad, stating that they have solidified their position as one of the most formidable white-ball teams in history. He attributed this to their depth, experience, and consistent performance in ICC tournaments over recent years.

Ponting reflected on India's dominance in ICC white-ball competitions, noting that their record in the past few years is impressive. He remarked, “It’s really hard to argue a point against that,” when discussing whether this Indian team is the strongest ever in T20I cricket.

He further emphasized that the depth and strength of the current Indian team, along with their extensive experience, were recognized even before the tournament began.

Ponting concluded by stating that India's recent success is the culmination of years spent developing a squad capable of excelling in global tournaments. “This is a very, very strong Indian white-ball team, not just a T20 team. Back-to-back World Cups, hats off to them,” he added.
