Team India Shines at WorldSkills Competition 2026 in Shanghai
Prime Minister Modi Engages with WorldSkills Participants
On October 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with members of Team India who took part in the WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai 2026, at his residence in New Delhi.
During this meeting, the competitors shared their insights and experiences from the event, expressing their pride in representing India on such a prestigious platform.
The participants highlighted their adaptation to various new tools, software, and technical systems throughout the competition. They also acknowledged the government's efforts in skill development, which are significantly benefiting the youth.
Team India achieved an impressive 10th place at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, earning 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.
This performance marked a notable improvement from their 13th place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, where they secured four Bronze Medals and 12 Medals for Excellence, showcasing a significant milestone for India's skilled youth on the international stage.
The Silver Medals were awarded to Smriti Nambiar in Bakery, Mohammed Salam in Dental Prosthetics, Kovid Ajay Gangrade in Digital Interactive Media Design, Parth Vohra in Industrial Design Technology, Mehrunissa Begum in Logistics and Freight Forwarding, and Saniya Joshi in Retail Sales. Their accomplishments reflect the diverse talents of Indian youth across creative, technical, and service sectors, as noted in the press release.
Additionally, India received 20 Medals for Excellence across various fields, including technical, industrial, digital, creative, and service skills. Smriti Nambiar, who won a Silver Medal in Bakery, was honored as the Best of the Nation for India.
The six-day event, which took place from September 22 to 27, 2026, featured over 1,400 young competitors from approximately 70 countries and regions. India was represented by its largest-ever team of 70 competitors, participating in 63 different skills, covering emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing, engineering, creative industries, and specialized services.
After four days of rigorous competition from September 23 to 26, the winners were celebrated at a grand closing ceremony on September 27 in Shanghai, which highlighted exceptional technical skills, innovation, precision, and craftsmanship, bringing together competitors, international delegations, experts, and industry representatives from around the globe.
