Bangladesh's Strong Performance in Australia

In Darwin, Bangladesh showcased a remarkable display in the first Test against Australia, highlighted by Tanzid Hasan Tamim's historic maiden century. The match took place at the Marrara Cricket Ground, where Bangladesh ended Day 2 in a commanding position.

After successfully bowling Australia out for 198 on the first day, Bangladesh capitalized on the favorable batting conditions. Tanzid and Mominul Haque resumed their innings, forming a solid partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket before Mominul was dismissed for 49 by Josh Hazlewood.

Tanzid achieved his maiden Test century, making him the first Bangladeshi player to score a Test hundred on Australian soil. The 25-year-old's innings included 101 runs off 188 balls, featuring eight fours and a six, before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon.

This century marked a significant milestone for Bangladesh, ending a lengthy wait for a Test hundred scored away from home, the last being Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 137 against South Africa in 2022.

Tanzid's achievement is only the second century by a Bangladeshi player against Australia in Test matches, with Shahriar Nafees being the first to score 138 in Fatullah back in 2006.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also contributed significantly with a solid 84, while Mushfiqur Rahim added 36 runs. However, the Australian pace attack managed to claim a few wickets as Shanto and Mushfiqur were dismissed, providing some relief to the hosts.

At the end of Day 2, Bangladesh stood at 348/6 after 106 overs, boasting a substantial 150-run lead over Australia. Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained not out on 29, with Hasan Mahmud at 13, as the visitors aimed to extend their lead.

On the first day, Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud excelled with the ball, achieving career-best figures of 6/55, which played a crucial role in bowling Australia out for 198 in just 53 overs.

Hasan's performance surpassed the previous best figures by a Bangladeshi bowler against Australia, which was 5/62 by Rafique in 2006. This match also marked Australia's lowest Test score against Bangladesh since 2017.

In his 15 Test matches, Hasan has now taken three five-wicket hauls, ranking second among Bangladeshi pacers in this regard, just behind Shahadat Hossain. With impressive performances in India, Pakistan, and now Australia, Hasan has established himself as a formidable bowler in challenging conditions.

Despite a brief partnership of 45 runs between Travis Head (22) and Jake Weatherald (23) for the first wicket, Australia struggled, collapsing to 74/4. Steve Smith's effort of 71 runs off 109 balls, including seven fours and a six, was not enough to stabilize the innings as Hasan continued to dominate.

Taskin Ahmed also made history by becoming the sixth Bangladeshi bowler to reach 300 international wickets, achieving this milestone with figures of 2/55. He now has 300 wickets in 204 matches, with an impressive average above 28.
