Tamim Iqbal's New Role

Former cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He previously held the position of interim head after the government dissolved the BCB's board of directors in April. Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Tamim expressed his commitment to enhancing transparency within the board. He stated, “I aim for us to be as transparent as possible. I want to ensure that none of my board members engage in actions that could lead to controversy. We will strive to operate with complete integrity.”

While acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead during his four-year tenure, Tamim emphasized the importance of prioritizing the interests of players and the sport itself. “We will face many tough situations. Mistakes will happen, but we will learn and improve. Our commitment to cricket will remain unwavering. Every player, both current and former, along with all stakeholders in Bangladesh cricket, will receive the respect they deserve,” he remarked, highlighting the need for collective effort.

He also noted the reputational issues the board has faced in recent years and expressed his determination to address these concerns. “What transpired over the last year and a half was unacceptable. I won’t assign blame to anyone. To overcome this situation, we need the support of everyone involved; it cannot be achieved in isolation,” Tamim stated during a press conference. He added, “The damage to our reputation must be rectified. If mistakes are made, let’s discuss them openly; constructive criticism is essential for improvement. After eight years, I will ensure to communicate with you regularly and keep you updated on our plans.”
