A Historic First for Tamil Nadu

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 2: In a significant milestone for Indian sports, Tamil Nadu is preparing to host the Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship 2026, marking the first time this prestigious event will take place in the state.

The Tamil Nadu Tennis Ball Cricket Association (TNTBCA) is organizing the championship under the auspices of the Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India (TBCFI), which is officially recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYA&S), the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT). The tournament is set to feature around 600 elite players competing over four action-packed days from October 26 to October 29, 2026, at KCG College in Karapakkam, Chennai.

Unveiling of Logo and Jersey

The official logo and jersey for the championship were revealed during a ceremony at Hotel Ramada in Guindy, Chennai. The event was attended by renowned badminton player and multiple Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who served as the Chief Guest.

Sindhu, who earned a Silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics and a Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, added prestige to the event. Her presence underscored the increasing global recognition of tennis ball cricket and inspired the athletes to aim for excellence on an international level.

Sindhu's Encouragement for Athletes

Expressing her delight at being part of the Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, Sindhu extended her best wishes to the organizers, athletes, and associated bodies. She commended the initiative for promoting athlete participation and welcomed the growing support from sponsors. Sindhu emphasized the necessity for enhanced backing for athletes to help them reach their full potential.

“I’m very happy to be here, and everything is going well. I’m here for the Tennis Ball Cricket League, and I’m glad to support this initiative. Sindhu, who recently made history by becoming the first Indian to win the Japan Open Super 750 title, faced a tough defeat against China’s Wang Zhiyi in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2026. She expressed her eagerness for the upcoming Asian Games.

“We’re heading to the Asian Games soon, and I’m really looking forward to it,” she added.
