Tajinderpal Singh Toor's quest for a third consecutive gold medal at the Asian Games concluded with a silver medal as he faced challenging wet conditions on Saturday.

Toor achieved a top throw of 20.64 meters, securing second place and marking his third consecutive medal at the Asian Games.

The gold medal was claimed by Iran's Mohammadreza Tayebise, who set a new Games record with a throw of 20.81 meters, surpassing Toor's previous record of 20.75 meters established in 2018. Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Tolu earned the bronze with a throw of 20.48 meters.

While Toor's silver adds to his gold medals from Jakarta in 2018 and Hangzhou in 2022, it also meant the loss of his Games record as Tayebise broke the mark he had set eight years prior. Expressing his disappointment, Toor mentioned that he entered the competition with high hopes of achieving a 21-meter throw. "I was aiming for a hat-trick of gold medals. My body felt good, and I was confident I could throw my best until the sixth attempt. So, I am a bit disappointed and not satisfied with my performance," the athlete from Punjab stated.
