Suryakumar Yadav Eyes T20 World Cup Final Showdown with Australia in Ahmedabad
Suryakumar Yadav's Aspirations for T20 World Cup 2026
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 25: Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India's T20 team, has expressed his desire for a specific opponent and venue if India reaches the final of the T20 World Cup 2026. During the announcement event for the tournament's schedule, he stated that he would like to face Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
While seated alongside fellow cricketers Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur, Suryakumar was asked by the event host about which team he would prefer to see India compete against in the final. With a smile, he confidently replied, “Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad… Australia, definitely.”
It's worth noting that just a week prior, on November 19, 2023, Australia had dealt a significant blow to Indian fans by winning the ODI World Cup final at the same venue, thanks to a stellar century from Travis Head. The 2026 T20 World Cup final is also slated to take place at this iconic stadium, unless Pakistan makes it to the final, and Suryakumar seems eager to seek redemption for that ODI defeat.
At the same event, ICC Chairman Jay Shah thrilled fans by announcing Rohit Sharma as the brand ambassador for the T20 World Cup. Rohit expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament returning to India after ten years and wished all 20 participating teams a successful experience.
“It’s fantastic to have the tournament back in India, and I’m excited to be associated with it again, this time as the Brand Ambassador. I wish all players the best and hope they create wonderful memories while enjoying India’s hospitality,” Rohit remarked.
